dear olympics,

Thank you for disrupting my sleeping routine with incredible displays of sport, in the water, on the track, and even in Government offices. You’ve made a two weeks in which I’ve done little to nothing, quite memorable and ultimately fulfilling. You’ve reunited me with old friends, and have even helped me overcome the disappointment in [...]

hot of the presses – ioc calls for investigation into the actual ages of the chinese women’s gymnastics team

http://www.smh.com.au/news/off-the-field/ioc-calls-for-probe-into-china-star/2008/08/22/1219262483864.html
The age of 3 of the Chinese women girls on the Olympic gymnastic team has been heavily disputed all throughout their competition. It seems that the IOC has succumbed to all the media pressure. And part of me hopes it has more to do with following the actual rules – it’s just surprising how this [...]

an entry that (almost) isn’t about the olympics.

It is possible. Though fittingly, the idea for this entry originated from my obsession with Olympic TV coverage. But let that be the last time I mention the “O” word, at least in this post anyway.
Sports themes. The anthems for the sporting events we all love. If we’re ever forced to define a sport by [...]

what if the olympics were in toronto?…

I still remember that day. My eyes were glued onto the live televised announcement of which city would host the 2008 summer games. My understanding was it was a two-horse race, between Beijing and Toronto. But for an event that tries its best to separate itself from politics, the decision to hold the games in [...]

sharing olympic medals – what’s your opinion?

Tonight I caught the women’s gymnastics apparatus final which ended on a unique note, the top two athletes finished with the same final score, but given IOC rules regarding ties in gymnastics, there was some algorithm written into the software used by judges to put one athlete over another. I could probably look up exactly [...]

one month hiatus: the recap

At the outset of creating this account, the goal was well, daily posts. Clearly, seeing as how my last entry dates back a little over a month, that goal appears to have been a touch optimistic. But hey, maybe I should take a book out of the Olympic men’s Canadian gymnastics team, and be proud [...]

Kendrick Perkins = God of War.

Thank you Oliver Miller (I’ll explain).
Around one or two months ago, I got into an email conversation/debate, about NBA player look-a-likes. Perhaps the most common is the San Antonio Spurs’ Fresh Prince. The next one down would probably be Utah’s own Mr. Demi Moore.
Thinking outside the box, and with the power of Google, I [...]

Posting up, Mark Jackson at half-court.

Game two of the NBA finals was soft. Other than the last minute, when Boston slept on their lead, the game lacked any drama. So much so that I found myself watching Family Channel’s presentation of Remember the Titans for much of the latter half of the game. (Best sports movie ever? I think so.)
I [...]
